I’ve been working on my youngest daughter’s room little by little. One thing you can probably tell about me and my decorating “style” is that I’m slow! Haha! I promise I mean that in a good way, though. I just like to take my time, to be honest. I don’t like rushing a bunch of decorations and “stuff” just to have it done. That’s not my style. I have a lot going on. And frankly, I’d rather let a room evolve over time. It makes it more meaningful to me! So, now we’re to the point of starting to put things on the walls. I originally bought this amazing faux chalkboard wrapping paper to use as wall art in our basement, but when I started putting my daughter’s room together, I thought it would be perfect. This “wrapping paper” is so cool! It’s probably about 18″x28″, so it would be used to wrap something small, I guess. But I love it as art. And the place I bought it – an office supply shop in downtown Holland, MI – had a ton of different designs. Anyway, when I saw the faux chalkboard, I knew we’d be inseparable! I laid out some other random wrapping paper on my basement floor to protect it from getting all sticky, laid a piece of foam board (from the dollar store) on top of it, and then sprayed the board with spray adhesive. Then I just positioned the paper in the corner and started rolling it out, making sure to smooth out any bubbles as I went. Once I finished pressing the paper down, I let the project set for a while to give the adhesive time to dry before I messed with it. Then I ran a utility knife along the two edges that needed excess board cut off and it was looking great! Isn’t it cute? In that picture it really looks like a real chalkboard, right?! My hubby actually built a frame for me out of some old barn wood for something else and it ended up “mostly” fitting this project, so I just used it. I nailed the foam board right to the back of the frame and then nailed a picture hanger into it. It worked perfectly! I love the look of it framed, too! It just gives it a little more of a finished look. (PS – if you’re curious, all the bedding is from Ikea. Except for the herringbone throw – that’s from Target!) Told ya! Easy peasy project. And it’s perfect for a kid’s room, don’t you think? And since you know I love vintage green chalkboards, this little guy just makes my heart happy!
