One of the things I like least about our home is that the windows aren’t trimmed out. There’s only one window in our house that actually has trim around it and we put it there ourselves! The lack of trim leaves our house feeling a bit cold and boring. I’ve found through updating each room though, that curtains help a ton! They not only add personality to the room, but they make it feel so much more cozy and comfortable. See how boring this slider looked before? We tried giving this wall a little more interest by adding the wall art on the left, but it still felt like it needed something…I just couldn’t put my finger on what would work. I was standing in our kitchen one day just staring at the wall, thinking what to do about it, when I finally decided curtains were the way to go! I don’t know what took me so long to think of that. I mean, the rest of the house has looked so much better since adding curtains to the windows, why wouldn’t this one? I think my biggest hold up was that it’s a slider and not a regular window. But we almost never use it since there’s a door 3 feet to the left, so the curtains really wouldn’t be in the way. Doesn’t it look so much cozier? I love the impact the curtains have made in our dining room! And it feels a little dressier, don’t you think? We got these gorgeous grey tweed curtains from Prospect + Vine (you can find them here). They are such good quality – thick, lined, and they hemmed them for me! Seriously, me not having to sew means the world to me! When they told me they have a hemming service and asked for my measurements, I almost fell off my chair! I was thinking I’d have to do all this sewing (because I usually use drop cloth or Ikea curtains), but not this time! And let me tell you…their quality and attention to detail is evident in their curtains, but also in the hardware. My hubby helped me hang the curtain rods and it was so easy. They even included things like metal anchors (they’re always plastic from everywhere else – or not included at all!), and screw covers for the back plates so all you see is the pretty hardware. I got the Becket rod and square finials in black and they fit perfectly with our dark hardware on our doors and kitchen cabinets. Like I said, I usually buy my curtains from big box stores, so I was impressed by how high of quality this company was. It made my decision of hanging curtains here that much better. And check out that gorgeous tweed texture! It adds so much depth to the room! I was able to get the curtains up the day before Thanksgiving. We had a bunch of people coming for the holiday, so I was happy the curtains arrived in time. The curtains made the dining room feel way more dressed up for the holiday. My hubby and I both commented that the curtains made the room feel way more “grown up”! I’m thinking we may get rid of my beloved corner cabinet one of these days. It doesn’t fit in as well with the curtains now. And since I really love the curtains, it might just have to go! I’m thinking of getting a narrow china hutch for the adjacent wall. Something not too big, but that still has some storage to it. We’ll see what I can find! I hope you enjoyed a little sneak peek at my Christmas decor, too.
