I can’t believe Christmas is almost here! Yesterday I posted my Christmas home tour and today I’m sharing the first of a few DIY projects from my post. These vintage skis were one of my favorite things in my home tour this year. They were a mere $3 at a garage sale a couple summers ago. I let them sit in my basement for far too long because I just didn’t know what I wanted to do with them.
Here’s what they looked like before I got to work on them.
I scraped the flaking paint off first and then used a chemical stripper to get the rest off. At this point, I thought I’d strip it all off and just stain them. And then not all the paint came off and I had to change directions. Funny how that seems to always happen!
This is what they looked like after stripping paint off twice. Kind of cool and worn, but a bit bright.
After I cleaned them off, I gave them a couple quick coats of dark walnut stain. Then I gave them two coats of hemp oil to deepen the color even more.
They look perfectly worn, vintage, and rustic now!
Cheap things like these $3 skis are really my favorite things to decorate with. I love having one-of-a-kind pieces in my home and when they cost next to nothing, you just can’t beat that!
