This is not real life. As much as I wish it were, it’s just not.
This would just never work in my home … well, not at this stage in my life, anyway. The kids would totally tear it apart – especially my 15 month old! Anything breakable stays far away from that girl! She (and I’m sure many other kiddos her age) gravitates toward anything shiny. Oh, who am I kidding? She gravitates toward anything and everything. Nothing is safe in our house these days! So, this display would last about 2 seconds before she ripped it apart.
But I’m pretty sure my 3 year old daughter wouldn’t be too interested in my little display. That is, except for the croquet set, which she’d grab immediately because she’d be begging to go play with it outside. I actually had to send her outside with my mom and some toys to distract her from the fact that I was borrowing her croquet set!
And then there are the pets. Our dog could not stop eating the pink flower petals that had fallen to the floor. I don’t know what it is about them, but they must have tasted good! And the cat, even after I moved the boxwood to the dining table overnight, decided it would be fun to chew on it. And then after drinking a bowl full of water this morning, threw up. Because apparently boxwood doesn’t sit so well in the tummies of cats. Who knew?!
Oh, and I couldn’t even put this display together and photograph it in the first place on a normal day. I’ve been seriously lacking with my photos lately and I finally realized why. I have two little kids! Yeah. Not only do I have to find a time (usually nap time) to set up a photo shoot, I also have to have time to take the photos and not be stressed out about the little one stomping on over to try to pull it apart every other second. I realized yesterday, when my mom was over and so graciously took the kiddos outside to play while I did my thing inside, that I just am way too distracted on a daily basis to do these photo shoots successfully. I told my mom she’s going to have to come over a few times a week (she lives about 2 hours away) so I can get my photos taken! Haha!
The truth is that I love decorating and taking photos! When I’m not rushed and trying to shoo kids and animals away, it’s kind of a fun process to arrange things “just so” and find different angles to shoot at. It just makes my heart happy in some weird way. So, even though I don’t get a lot of time to do it, I’ll keep doing it when I can because it makes me happy!
What makes you happy? Do you have time to do it or is it a chore to find the time?
