Do What you Love

Wow!  It’s been a while, hasn’t it?!  Sorry for such a long break!  Within 4 days our whole family got the flu – we each got it on a different day.  I haven’t been that sick in probably 10 years!  Let’s just say it was not fun!

It took me a few days to bounce back, but since then I’ve been painting and working on getting a few things ready to bring to my booth this weekend.

As I shared on Facebook, yesterday I was sitting in the basement, in the middle of several projects.  I just sat down at my desk as I waited for paint to dry.  I sat in my chair for a moment and suddenly realized how blessed I am to be doing what I love.

As you know, I’ve let blogging take a bit of a backseat this year as I focus more on my work and my family.  My work (painting) is why I started this blog after all, and I had been missing it terribly as last year came to an end.  But since I’ve made the choice this year to work on balancing blog, work, and family, I’ve noticed that I’m already so much more content.  I’m doing what I love, and I love what I do!

And since I have given myself more time to work, I’ve also come across some growing, er, learning pains.  I’ve learned a lot in the last week alone and I know I’m just at the tip of the iceberg.  It has been frustrating at times, believe me, but I know it’s all for a reason.

I really am so excited to see where this year takes me!

In other news, we finally bought a bathtub for our basement bathroom remodel and hope to start working on the plumbing when my husband has a few days off again (hopefully next week)!  I cannot wait to see that room finally start to take shape!  Of course, I’ll be sharing progress updates on Instagram, so be sure to follow along and watch the craziness unfold.  This should be interesting!  :)

P.S. – I used Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint on the stool.  The base color is a custom color and the main coral color is called Apron Strings.

I’m so sorry your family caught the flu! Horrible stuff, that is. Glad to hear you are feeling better and back to doing what you love (jealous; I sit in a cubicle all day!) I’ll just live vicariously through you, if you don’t mind… :) I can’t wait to see some of your paint projects and follow along on your journey!

I simply LOVE that little pink stepstool, and wish I had a place for it. Maybe I’ll have to create a place—it’s adorable!

Sorry that you all got the flu :( I’m glad you are finding balance even when there are growing pains. I myself am experiencing this as I go back to college to finish my degree I started 25 years ago. Reading blogs like yours are what relaxes me and I enjoy them so much. Last week was so hard with kids, housework and the tremendous amounts of schoolwork that I just didn’t have any time to read the blogs except for a quick 2 min. scan. I realized that I have to take time for myself, even if its just 10 min. at a time. Sorry for my venting or rambling. Love the pink steps tool.

Allison, I love this. It’s such a cheerful color. I haven’t done too many painting projects, but you’ve inspired me to definitely choose this color next time I redo a piece of old wooden furniture it our house. Pinning.

    Hi Allison
This combo is so cute and your distressing is what sets it off. Just curious, are you a fan of hemp oil or waxing?

    • Allison @ The Golden Sycamore says

Thanks Annie! I don’t feel like I’ve quite mastered hemp oil yet, so I prefer waxing right now. I need to do a little more practicing with hemp oil, I guess! :)
