Christmas Tablescape

So, my husband has been gone all week at training.  Which means a few things.  I get almost nothing done, the house becomes a complete disaster (more so than usual), and the kids are neglected get to watch movies and play while I take 3 hours to set up a Christmas tablescape because I’m slower than molasses!  😉  The baby did actually get a bath today, which is more than I can say for myself so far!

And because the hubs is gone and I’m single parenting this week, I think I’ve had enough Mt. Dew to caffeinate a small village for a month . . .

And my kids have been told “just a sec” about a million times . . .

And there’s glitter and pine needles all over the floor and counter (which finally got cleaned up yesterday) . . .

Oh, and I’m pretty sure the cat has partaken (is that a word) in some twine . . .

And the dog has been whining at the back door to be let out for the last hour (she gets the “just a sec” treatment, too) . . .

And there are dishes piled in the sink . . .

But at least I got a pretty Christmas table out of it, right?!

On a side note … just when I was done taking pictures of the finished table, this happened!  YUCK!!  I saw this little (er, big) guy on the chair and totally freaked out!  I hate bugs!  My first instinct was to smash it with something and toss it down the toilet.  But then, being a blogger, I thought I needed to share it with you all!  And THEN after I got through being close enough to it to take a decent picture of it, I LET IT LIVE!  Yep, that’s right!  I put a cup over it, closed the bottom (top) with my paper-towel-covered-hand, and actually threw it outside so it could live out the rest of its days.  Crazy, I know!  It makes my skin crawl just thinking about the fact that it’s still out there.  Ready to attack at any moment!  😉  But I did take it from it’s natural habitat in the woods when I cut the lovely greens for my Christmas decor, so maybe it will be too freaked out at its new surroundings and die!  A girl can hope, right?!

Yucky bug!

And now I’m off to spend some time with the kiddos before they go down for naps so I can get some more stuff done.  Like, maybe take a shower!  😉  (I don’t know how people do this on a regular basis!  It is far too much for me to handle all by myself!)

It’s all lovely! And the funnest part of your blog is how you always make it so “real life” and from your heart! :)

So pretty. I love the green and grey together. I especially like the touch of velvet. I don’t think I would have thought to put those colors together. Our family room/dining area are greys, tans and blacks. I think a little green might look pretty for the holidays. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sounds like it will be so pretty, Becky! I’m glad I went a little non-traditional this year. It was fun! :)

Your post is funny! And it sounds so familiar to me, including the cat and twine and the ‘just a sec’ lines! Now, for the table, it’s just gorgeous! I love it and I’m definitely sharing on my facebook page later (but pinning now!)
