1 Antique Bed – 2 Projects

A couple months ago we received an antique bed from a friend.  We had been looking for something unique for our daughter’s room and this was perfect!

Here is the headboard when we got it.  We just stuck it up against the wall (her mattress was already on a metal frame) to see if it fit and if it would work.  Obviously our daughter liked it!  ;)
And here is the headboard after I painted it!
I gave it two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence and then dry brushed the edges with Old White and gave it a little distressing.
I love how it turned out and it looks great in our daughter’s room.  We painted her room a few weeks after painting the bed and I love how the colors look together!
We ended up not using the footboard of the antique bed in my daughter’s room, but I still wanted to use it for something.  It had such a great shape, I couldn’t just get rid of it.

Here it is before I got my hands on it!

I thought it would be fun to make a sign out of it, so I had my husband saw off the legs and then I got to painting.  I turned it into a chalkboard by painting the inside part in chalkboard paint.  The edges were painted in ASCP Old White and then lightly distressed.
I think it is such a fun sign!  I am just in love with the shape – even more so now that it is painted.  I love how the white pops off the black of the chalkboard and how it showcases the great shape of the piece!
The sign is for sale and will be posted in my “shop” section here on the blog and in my new Etsy shop.  Be sure to check it out and send me an email if you’re interested.

Thanks for stopping by the blog and hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    • Thanks Lisa! I’m really happy with the color, too! It is Comfort Gray by Sherwin Williams, BUT it is mixed at 75%, so it’s a bit lighter than the actual paint chip. Hope that helps!

    • Thank you, it does! And funny enough I had comfort gray picked out! Never thought to ask them to tone it down a bit. Love your blog.
