Trying out a new color

First, I have a little confession.  I feel like I have a little bit of writer’s block lately.  It’s just not coming naturally to me right now.  I don’t know if I’m just trying too hard or what it is.  It couldn’t possibly be that I have WAY too much going on right now, right?!  ;)  Regardless, I apologize if my posts have been a little “flat” lately.  I really am doing my best!  I’m sure it will get better soon.  It better, anyway!  :)
Now, on to my newest furniture flip!

Here’s how the table looked when I bought it.

I got the table at a flea market at the beginning of the summer.  It wasn’t really “speaking” to me at first, so I just set it aside while I worked on other projects.  One day I glanced over at it sitting all lonely in the corner of the basement, and it just hit me.  I knew how I wanted to refinish it.  I love when that happens!
I started out by shellac-ing the whole piece.  After having a few bad experiences with bleed through, I almost always shellac before I paint.  It’s not my favorite thing to do, but saves a TON of pain later on!
The table had this gold accent on the top, but I wasn’t too worried about it when I bought it.  I knew I would paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and that stuff covers just about anything, and does so beautifully!

The body is painted in ASCP Old White and the tiers are painted in Coco.  I am loving Coco, by the way.  It’s so pretty and rich!  I’m glad I added it to my collection!

I did a coat of clear wax and a coat of dark wax to finish it off.  I’m loving how this table turned out.  I totally tried to find a place for it in our house, but I just couldn’t make it work.  So off to my booth it went!

By the way, I’m in the process of updating my “shop” page, so if there’s anything you’re interested in purchasing, check that page out to see if it’s available.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Update : this table sold from my booth today!  I’m so excited that people are enjoying my work enough to take it home with them!  :)

  2. Visiting from Sunday Scoop. I wish I’d read this two weeks ago – I used 6 coats of CeCe Caldwell paint on my kitchen table because there was so much bleed through. Ugh… what a waste of paint! I will remember your trick now! Glad I stopped by – the table is lovely!

    • Thanks Kathryn! And sorry to hear about your bleed through issue. I HATE bleed through! It is such a pain! In the future, I’d recommend just using Zinsser shellac on the whole piece – or where ever you are going to paint – and then paint over that. I’ve tried painting a coat and finding the bleed through spots and the shellac-ing them. It doesn’t work! It makes the paint adhere differently and you can tell where you shellac-ed. That was a lesson learned the hard way! Anyway, best of luck in the future and thanks for stopping by my blog!
